Following a sell out run at the Royal Court Theatre, the universally acclaimed production of Martin McDonagh’s first UK play in over 10 years transfers to Wyndham’s Theatre for a strictly limited season.
In his small pub in Oldham, Harry is something of a local celebrity. But what’s the second-best hangman in England to do on the day they’ve abolished hanging? Amongst the cub reporters and sycophantic pub regulars, dying to hear Harry’s reaction to the news, a peculiar stranger lurks, with a very different motive for his visit.
Martin’s McDonagh’s theatre credits include The Beauty Queen of Leenane (the Royal Court), The Cripple of Inishmaan (National/West End/Broadway), The Pillowman (National/ Broadway), The Lieutenant of Inishmore (RSC/Garrick/Broadway) and A Behanding in Spokane (Broadway). For film (as Writer/Director) credits include Six Shooter (Short), In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths. Martin has been awarded the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy (The Lieutenant of Inishmore), an Olivier Award for Best New Play (The Pillowman), an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film (Six Shooter) and a BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay (In Bruges).
Matthew Dunster directs as original cast members David Morrissey and Johnny Flynn reprise their roles.

really darkly funny, laughed all the way through and superb acting
Interesting, taut, well-acted.Pity the audience didn't know when to laugh and when to shut up. Delightful theatre with charming staff.
Thoroughly enjoyable. A fabulous black comedy, marvellous cast and great staging. Only gripe with cramped seating which is uncomfortable for someone with a dodgy knee.
Very enjoyable show. Dealt wth serious issues, while always remembering that it had a theatre audience to keep engaged;very theatrical from the first act, full of great characters, laughter and suspense. Was high up in theatre and still managed to hear most of dialogue .... Not always the case. ,
An excellent play the actors were great and the set was amazingly clever. A serious topic was covered with great humour. The play also gave a good insight into the some of the social attitudes of the time. I would definitely recommend it to friends as a good night out.
So many serious issues brought up and examined in a very humorous way. It had the audience laughing, yet at the same time thinking about the dichotomies inherent in the various situations. A very clever play. At times it was a bit difficult to understand the script through the Northern accent, but one got the most important bits. The character of the daughter screeched and screamed her lines and was virtually impossible to understand.
Excellent show, well acted with good production and a great set. Would recommend.

Wickedly dark plot that will stay with you long after you stop chucking. Acting superb and set design inspired.
Occasionally a difficult watch but cleverly constructed. Some gags more crass than funny. Acting calibre superlative.
We found this play to be very well put together and entertaining throughout.
Show was brilliant. Tickets well above above face value though.
