Company is, in short, a masterpiece. 

Marianne Elliot’s interpretation of Stephen Sondheim’s 1970 musical is fresh, vibrant and feels like it could have been written yesterday, not 48 years ago. 

This gender reversal of the original 1970 musical comedy, Company, which features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by George Furth, is perfect for the post-Sex and the City era and sums up exactly what it’s like to be a single woman in her thirties.  

The West End revival of Company, which stars Rosalie Craig and Patti LuPone, has been confirmed to begin its cast recording at the weekend. The recording sessions will also be filmed for an upcoming 2019 documentary on the making of the Marianne Elliott production, which offers an innovative new take on the Stephen Sondheim classic.

Company is now booking at the Gielgud Theatre until 30 March 2019.

This year’s Evening Standard Theatre Awards showed just how much people enjoy a bit of company. The West End revival of Company, which is currently running at the Gielgud Theatre and stars Rosalie Craig and Patti LuPone, took home two big awards for the night, including Best Musical Performance for Craig’s portrayal of Bobbie and Best Director for Marianne Elliott. Other notable winners include Natasha Gordon for Most Promising Playwright for her National Theatre production of Nine Night (which transfers to Trafalgar Studios on 1 December 2018) and Ralph Fiennes for Best Actor for his performance in the National Theatre’s Antony and Cleopatra.

The modern reimagining of Stephen Sondheim’s Company, which stars Patti LuPone and Rosalie Craig, will be keeping London audiences company for longer than originally expected. Due to overwhelming ticket demand and rave reviews, the musical will now be booking for an additional three months at the Gielgud Theatre.

Whether you love her, hate her, or love to hate her, there’s no denying that polarizing actress Patti LuPone is a true talent, who, despite being rumoured to have quit acting in recent years, keeps returning to the stage for more. Next month, LuPone is set to star in the West End revival of Company at the Gielgud Theatre, reprising her role as Joanne from the 2011 TV film adaptation of Company, in which she starred alongside Neil Patrick Harris. This week, in celebration of her upcoming London show, we are casting the spotlight on the legendary Patti Lupone.

The production team for Company has just announced the show’s final cast members, who will be keeping Rosalie Craig and Patti Lupone company. The West End production of this legendary Broadway musical premieres at the Gielgud Theatre this September following the closing of the two-part historical epic Imperium.
